Try on Wedding Outfits, Despite Not Being Engaged

Walking into town with Kat this morning we passed a bridal shop and I told her how another friend and I said we should pretend to be engaged and try on wedding dresses.

"We should do that!" said Kat, "I've come to the conclusion that I'm a fun person, but I have a tendency to be boring."

"Me too," I said "and one of my New Year's resolutions is to do more fun and exciting things."

"Then this is exactly the sort of thing we should do," said Kat.

And that's how we came to be in the bridal department at Debenhams (far less intimidating than Berketex Bride where they'd wanted us to book an hour-long consultation before trying on their £1000+ dresses)

Kat switched one of her rings to her wedding finger and spun a story about her fiancee "James" and her December wedding, while I chatted about what I and the other bridesmaids would like to wear. As a result Kat tried an absolutely gorgeous £350 cream silk embroidered wedding dress and I put on a £100 lilac silk bridesmaid dress.

We did feel a little bit guilty, but the woman in there looked so bored before we arrived and her face lit up when we talked to her about "the wedding" and chatted about her daughter - so we kind of did a good thing really(?).

A very funny and quite brave afternoon anyway, although karma will probably reward us with eternal spinsterhood!
